Bring your family and join Dr. David Adamski on Saturday night, Aug 13 at 7:30pm at the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, as he offers an engaging presentation on Insects, the most successful organisms on the planet. Join him for the presentation and a short night hike to see tiny nocturnal animals at lights used for identification and educational study.
Giving examples, Dr. Adamski will show how these organisms have beat the odds on survival, explaining how insects are built to last. With wax covered exoskeletons, and features adapted for plant-feeding, predatory-feeding or both, these animals ROCK! In addition to flight, many insects have adapted themselves to survive by evolving relationships with poisonous plants and animals, many of which are insects.
Dr. Adamski is a Smithsonian-based entomologist, who has been studying night-flying moths for over 30 years. His research has taken him around the world, and into his own backyard. His focus is on those species that are usually ignored by many naturalists because of their small size. He has authored or coauthored hundreds of species new to science, discovered several invasive species now established in North America, and has documented for the first time the life-histories of many moth species.
